about

After writing this track it took some time before its meaning came clear to me.
Just before emmigrating to the US in 2004, I had went out very early one Sunday morning with my 35mm camera and drove around taking pictures of all the places I was going to miss. It took me a few years to realize that, although Belfast regularly beat me up, I missed her and loved her. That's what this song is about.
Belfast is a fantastic place, with incredible history, people, art and music. You'd be sorely missing out, if you're ever in Europe and don't consider visiting, as it's as great a European city as any.

lyrics

Pull my head back out of the water and ask the question once again
Then you hold me down for the longest time
When my answer’s just the same

I could float downstream if I let it go, lose all the dreams I know
Caught up in a lie
Out there in the flow

It’s crazy that they’re shutting down
Everything that’s good all around town
I’m looking for the old and the push and the shove
And of how it grows from nothing but love

A part of me dies once I know
Why you backed down from all you told
Did you not believe how hard it was to face

The meter and the line they waver still
I never promised, but I always will
It hurts too much to put it in its place

It’s darkness for the most of us
Oh all the rain we can’t keep off
In around amongst ourselves
It’s a notion worth reminding
