about

REVOLT is a strong word, especially in light of the insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021, but viewed through the lens of the Summer of 2020, there was a strong desire for change, and an equal disgust at the untruths hurtling around mainstream and social media.

Leslie, who hails from Northern Ireland, only recently became a citizen of the United States; his voting power was first exercised in 2020 and admittedly, this turned into a pretty traumatic introduction to the democratic process, given the political discourse which has continued to this day. REVOLT is a song partially born out of this difficult experience and the timeline which has accompanied it.

REVOLT reflects a disappointment in realizing the cyclical nature of promises made and promises broken, while retaining the hope that new ideas and fresh direction is hot on the heels of the failings of the recent past. Leslie’s songwriting is usually more hopeful in its content, but perhaps some exasperation is a good thing once in a while. Leslie’s prominent Americana vibes shine throughout the track; this is proper Rock ‘n’ Roll.

lyrics

Did you mean what you say
The first time, that you spoke
Were you thinking of me
When you speak of revolt
Because I am revolted
On that we can agree
Oh, but I wonder
Were you thinking of me
Thinking of me

Can you remind me
Have we met before
Was there a joke that we had
Because I can’t recall
Did you think you were the one
That needed something off his chest
About the way you’ve been treated
But first let’s get your knee
Off this guy’s neck

Does the fading sunset mean anything to you
I wonder when do you realize that you’re through
And you know
Someone young
Will be following you
Does the fading sunset mean anything to you
I wonder when do you realize that you’re through
And you know
Someone young
Will be following you
